Autumn.
Those with the privilege to call Marbella home are often excited to welcome Autumn, a much preferred season accompanying favourable weather that encourages outdoor activities and gives people more control of their town with streets less packed, unlike the bustling summer months; gone are the days of lazy poolside lounging, and it’s time to venture out!
For anyone interested in architecture and history, We recommend a day trip to Malaga’s Alcazaba y Castillo de Gibralfaro – an Arab fortification built in the 10th century during the Muslim rule of the Iberian Peninsula. The typical courtyards and sweeping arches of the Alcazaba are similar to those of the famous Nasrid palace, making it an interesting architectural sight.
Marbella in outunm not only revives its bustling café culture, which continues throughout the winter, but it also offers a unique opportunity to experience the end of one of the longest ski seasons in Europe and the start of the surf season – both within a two-hour radius of the town.
For jazz enthusiasts, we warmly recommend the Malaga Jazz Festival,
No matter what your autumn excursion entails, when back in Marbella, be sure to conclude your day at a beachside restaurant of your choice with delicious Pescaíto frito or pulpo a la parrilla.
Winter.
Marbella lacks no cheerful Christmas spirit, and even though it experiences no snow, it is the perfect destination for someone who seeks a short escape from the harsh winter or an extended stay in our rental properties or anyone who wants to soak up the sunshine before facing the dreadful weather back home – for someone who lives in Europe, Marbella is just a short flight away. And also, we do not offer jet lag as opposed to other places that offer barefoot walking on the beach in December.
With thousands of light bulbs illuminating the romantic alleyways and the ever presence of the scent of hot chocolate and rosquillas, the old town of Marbella resembles a real Christmas wonderland during this time, and a visit to its squares, especially to the Plaza de los Naranjos should be on anyone’s “to-do list”. And also, the ice skating on the rinks and the dreamy miniature chalets that line the streets in the Christmas market of Puerto Banús should not be missed.
Malaga Christmas.
The captivating Malaga Christmas light show, which has evolved into a real virtual experience and scheduled to take place from early December through to 5th January is highly recommended for anyone struggling to feel the Christmas spirit. The show features 2 million LED lights woven into elaborate motives with 3D video mapping, sound effects and image projections on building facades, and a fresh new theme is presented on yearly basis. Visitors can even have the opportunity to pay a visit to Santa Clause himself at Muello Uno in Malaga – near the Pompidou Centre.
Spring.
As winter gives way to spring, the lush cherry trees in Marbella begin to blossom, and temperatures start to climb to 20°C; this period comes with a broad spectrum of experiences and activities, and LuxuryForSale.Properties is eager to present you with our top picks! It’s a perfect time to enjoy the best of both worlds.
Juanar.
Llanos de Juanar national park is home to various local wildlife, including mountain goats, birds, rare eagles and diverse flora and fauna, and as the Christmas season is oftentimes synonymous with culinary overindulgence, an excursion to this place is highly recommended. The park offers six different routes that all vary in difficulty and length, for someone who seeks more adventure and doesn’t suffer from vertigo, Caminito del Rey, located a bit inland from Malaga is highly recommended; the trail is between two to three hours journey depending on your physical condition and the pinnacle will be a suspension bridge over the Naranjo River and even if this is beyond your strength here will be an adequate route for you.
Ronda.
Ronda, a picturesque country town located 50 kilometers to the north, marks the start of a breathtaking journey that leads through the exclusive gated communities of La Zagaleta and El Madronal, mega mansions and awe-inspiring views. To reach this destination, one must first embark on a roughly five-minute journey up a gently winding road that cuts through the lush slopes covered in the greenery of traditional oak and pine. These hills provide privacy and tranquility for the luxurious homes that sit on their slopes, offering commanding views of the Mediterranean Sea, golf courses and the distinct outline of Gibraltar’s Rock. With Marbella only a short 15-minute drive away, this is an excellent location to begin exploring the region’s natural beauty.
We recommend visiting the vineyards of Finca La Melonera in Ronda for a leisurely outing, where you can partake in a bespoke wine-tasting tour, learn about the different grape varieties and visit the barrel room, and the tour concludes after two hours with an actual wine-tasting accompanied by a selection of different tapas. Another must-see attraction in Ronda is the awe-inspiring Puente Nuevo bridge, which connects the modern part of the city with the Moorish part. For such an undertaking, Costa Excursions is the prime service provider, offering private drivers and tour guides fluent in both Spanish and English.
Jerez.
The Jerez Horse Fair is an event where horses will be in the spotlight, and it’s highly recommended for anyone staying at the Costa Del Sol during May. The fair is the perfect occasion to express authentic Andalusian culture: spectators can sip on local wines, enjoy Andalusian delicacies as well as have the opportunity to practice their flamenco, as Jerez is the cradle of flamenco.
For horse riding enthusiasts, Costa del Sol is a true paradise, and we are thrilled to present our exceptional portfolio of properties in La Zagaleta, the most exclusive urbanization in Europe that boasts a state-of-the-art equestrian center; its impeccable facilities are so impressive that many fortunate residents have even relocated their horses to this refined community.
Sierra Nevada.
Roughly two hours from Marbella lie the ski slopes of the Sierra Nevada is mainland Spain’s highest mountain range, which makes it a popular weekend excursion spot for residents of the Costa del Sol. The area offers excellent facilities that are suitable even for championship-level skiing, a variety of hotels, restaurants, panoramic terraces, and a lively après ski ambiance. Visitors can enjoy a morning of skiing and spend the afternoon on the nearby beaches of Nerja, as it’s famously known.
Tarifa.
An attraction of spring in Marbella is the simultaneous availability of snowboarding and kite-surfing within a two-hour range of Marbella and the latter can be found in Europe’s surf capital, Tarifa. Located on the Atlantic Costa de la Luz, a little over an hour west of Marbella, this hippy chic resort town, and the historic port has an ambiance that is all it is own. This fact adds greatly to Tarifa’s appeal as a surfing, beach, and kite-surfing center, where green hills, charming low-rise hotels, and campsites surround the charming historic center of town. The focus, however, is firmly on the deep blue water and the soft, sandy beaches that seem to grow wider as you venture further west towards Boloña. More than just sports, Tarifa offers a relaxed beach experience during the day and a lively social scene at night, making it a perfect spot to ease into summer.
Summer.
There are certainly some highlights worth pointing out among the summer activities in Marbella even though one can easily cherry-pick them; one such event is Starlite Festival which will take place during July and August – this event is surely a highly anticipated event for all the music festival fans. The Nagüeles Quarry, the festival’s unique outdoor venue, creates an unforgettable atmosphere that keeps the festival lively; the stones found here were used to build Marbella’s main church and create a distinctive acoustic resonance that is unique to this location.
Beach Clubs.
Marbella has a wide selection of Beach Clubs to choose from regardless of your preferred vibe, and a visit to this place would not be complete without a visit to one of these iconic Beach Clubs. Although the official Beach Club season lasts from April to the end of October, many of their restaurants and bars remain open throughout the year, so whether you want to party or simply relax in the sun, Marbella has got you covered.
Located on a beautiful coastline in Elviria, Nikki Beach is the Beach Club with the longest-standing tradition in Marbella; it was recently renovated to include a new terrace with inviting cabanas, sun beds, and boasts a large pool with direct views of the Mediterranean Sea.
El Chiringuito, located in Puente Romano, offers an intimate atmosphere extending out towards the actual beach, and a restaurant, that serves an exotic variety of dishes that perfectly complement the stunning sunsets visible from the club.
