The announcement of the €40 million sale of the emblematic golf course that hosted the 1997 Ryder Cup and the plans to develop ‘Valderrama 2’ nearby using the exclusive super-luxury La Zagaleta gated community in Benahavís as a model, is a sign that the continuing recovery of the Costa del Sol high-end property market is expected by industry professionals to gather momentum over the next few years.
Luxury villas in Marbella
It is the second €200 million project announced on the Costa del Sol in the past few weeks, joining plans for a new resort complex comprising a five-star hotel and 120 luxury villas on the eastern fringe of Marbella. It will be built in the style of a Mediterranean village on 170,000 m2 of land fronting the beach at Las Chapas and will include a beach club, upmarket shops and restaurants. The land alone has cost Hong Kong based investment fund Platinum Estates — headed by Indian billionaire Roshni Mohinani — €50 million. The development of the 200 room hotel and the villas is expected to cost another €150 million.
This will be Platinum Estates’ sixth venture in Spain, showing its growing confidence in the country as a site for investment away from its more traditional locations of Hong Kong and London.
